I've always enjoyed making things. This shop is a dream come true for me. Here I can imagine and create with modern equipment. Computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing allows for design, production and repetition in ways i've never been able to accomplish on conventional tools.

Experience Building Form and Function

I was taking a break from college when I got a seasonal job at Yankee Marina and Boatyard in Yarmouth, ME. Boats had always been the symbol of form and function to me. My seasonal job turned year round and my college break became permanent. After a couple years at Yankee I decided I wanted to learn more about boat building. In 2000, I got a job working for Hinckley Yachts in Southwest Harbor, ME. Hinckley pushes the envelop of recreational luxury in both form and function on the water. I was fortunate to learn from some master builders during my time there. After 17 years, I was ready for a change. My wife, Melissa, and our two kids moved into our camp in Stonington,ME and eventually our home here in Deer Isle, ME. Her brother was good enough to give me a job lobstering with him out of Stonington. In the off seasons I've worked on my own doing carpentry and construction work locally. From the boats at Yankee to working in the stern of a lobster boat offshore, I've learned a lot about what's important in a product built to perform or a product built just for aesthetic. I've also learned there are many ways to combine these ideas in unique ways to design and make custom quality products. At 47 years old I still enjoy working to create things that strike the right balance between form and function.

Bayley Construction & Design

Bayley Construction & Design helps you make an idea into something you can use. I've put the focus of the shop on a new CNC router because it allows me to continue making cool things when I am not out working on the lobster boat. I also think it provides a needed service in the area. This shop is able to cut multiple basic parts quickly and effeciently as well as perform complex machining jobs and that could otherwise take several hours or longer on multiple machines. I've seen how effective computer aided design coupled with computer aided manufacturing unlocks people in the trades to develop, communicate ideas, design and produce.
